Classic Contemporary

The client's property was a converted stable block, but the combination of a small, awkward shaped front garden hemmed in by a picket fence made the area feel even smaller and more cramped than it was.

The new scheme had to sit comfortably with the character of the building, but the client wanted the garden to have impact and to enhance the property. A symmetrical layout was used to add focus to the main entrance to the house, while the removal of the fence gave a sense of space which was lacking before. The design is a combination of simple geometric lines with classic detailing on the bespoke metal planters.

Project Name: Small front garden

Size: 12 square metres
Overall project budget £7500
Duration: 5 months
Completion: Winter 2006

Nature of project:

A small, awkward shaped front garden which lacked impact and did nothing for the appeal of the house.  The brief called for a blend of traditional detailing and modern lines, adding focus to the house in a sympathetic fashion.
