Edwardian Town House

The clients, a professional couple in their late 30s, had already renovated the entire interior of this Edwardian property and were looking for a front garden to provide the finishing touch.

PURE garden design's solution was to provide a knee-high raised area to give a physical separation from the road, with a low hedge of holly planted along the face of this. A taller holly hedge would have taken the vast majority of the garden space, and so was to be avoided.

The clients had a young family and so wanted a bold, dynamic planting scheme that changed throughout the year - additional interest is provided by two new Acers which provide a balanced view from the dining room and also enhance the garden's sense of privacy without screening the frontage.

Project Name: Edwardian town house
Location: Urban conservation area
Size: 60 square metres
Overall project budget £15,000
Duration: 6 months
Completion: October 2005

Nature of project:

Regeneration of front garden in an urban conservation area.  The scheme had to provide a feeling of privacy without screening the frontage from the road.  Additional requirements were to include holly as a part of the local urban character and to give an interesting view from the dining room.

"PURE garden design came up with a creative solution that met the brief perfectly..."
